Monday at North Carolina Central University, senior guard Camille Downs of Norfolk State put on a performance of 28 points and eight rebounds in a 80-70 victory as the women’s basketball team returned from a long layoff.

In the MEAC opener, the Spartans last game play was December 19 due to COVID concerns around the league and against opposing teams.

Camille Down in just 22 minutes scored her third straight game of 20 points or more. Downs 11 of 18, 4 of 6 from 3-point range.

The Spartans overall shot over 48% from the field with contributions from teammates Deja Francis 12 points, and Makoye Diawara 9 points and 10 rebounds.

Norfolk State has Howard University in Washington, D.C. on Saturday.
